  • The crucial age requirement:
    • For the Bachelor’s degree: The applicant must be under 25 years of age .

  • July – August: Contact the University of Tsukuba to obtain a provisional acceptance letter.
  • September – October: Resubmitting the final completed documents to the embassy.
  • January – March: Announcement of the final results of the Japanese Ministry of Education’s selection process (MEXT), and arrival in Japan in April or October.

The second route: University Recommendation Route

  • November – December: The direct online application portal opens via the University of Tsukuba website, and it is recommended to contact an academic supervisor at the university in advance.
  • January – February: Interviews and internal screening by university committees and file filtering.
  • June: Announcement of the final university nominations and approval of names by MEXT, with studies to begin and arrival in Japan in October.
